At T1DE (aka “Tide”), our passion is to provide programs to support individuals and families to live long and healthy lives with T1D, free of the potential struggles and risks associated with this progressive disease.
Studies have shown that mentor and other support programs can make a significant impact on blood sugar control. Our youth can achieve normal growth, brain development and emotional wellbeing, while delaying the risks of complication due to high blood sugar. T1 diabetics have the right to do anything that non diabetics do and that includes having normal blood sugars.
Statically, less than 1 in 4 of our youth are meeting the blood sugar targets according to the current medical standards of care. Recently these targets were significantly lowered in an attempt to reduce early development of complications. Current guidance as to how to achieve these goals puts much of the responsibility on individuals and families.
Unfortunately for T1D, there is no “one size fits all” program, which is why managing T1D can be so challenging. That is why having local resources and support can make all the difference in the management of this chronic 24/7 disease.
Until there is a for T1 diabetes, T1DE will provide a wide range of programs that will help you NOW to achieve better control in order to prevent, delay or even reverse associated complications. Through our collective experience, we can support each other to live safer, healthier lives with T1D
